I've got a Windows program that plays Quicktime video back using the
Quicktime OCX accessed thru a third-party Delphi library.
In general it runs great. But...
We're starting to see some odd behavior with Quicktime 7 (seen it on
7.0.2, 7.0.3, and 7.0.4). Playback will sort of "die", and it appears
that we may have hung threads, etc. It's really hard to diagnose - it
doesn't happen here, only at customer sites. And it's not repeatable
easily. Same files work here, but we're on different hardware. But at
one site, with supposedly identical hardware and disk images (we're
checking that claim), one machine fails daily (after some period of
working), and one machine has had no problems. Oh, yeah - it's a new
behavior, since both machines were running fine since January.
There are a couple of other places that have reported intermittent
issues, and there are lots of other places where things are fine. My
tendency is to look at the law of large numbers and try to focus on what
the differences are in content, hardware, and OS/driver setup. The one
thing that seems to be common is that the files that are having problems
are H.264 and likely created by the clients themselves. Like I said,
though - the same files work here, and on other machines that the client
has.
Are there any known or suspected "Gotchas" with QT 7 and/or H.264
related to production, encoding, video drivers, Windows updates/patches
or anything like that?
Thanks....
Warrick Wilson
