Sorry, missed important word: "...assuming you also have the proper AUDIO
decoders and MPEG-4 splitters installed".

And if you don't have the proper audio decoders installed, you'll just get
silent movies.

So, the name of the decoder is CoreAVC.  All the cool kids are calling it
AVC instead of H.264 now, although I still get a secret thrill calling it
MPEG-4 Part 10.

QuickTime can create MPEG-4 files with AVC Main Profile video, and the
CoreAVC decoder decodes AVC Main Profile video, so *yes* -- AVC content
encoded with QuickTime 7 will play back in DirectShow compliant apps when
CoreAVC is present, assuming you also have the proper decoders and MPEG-4
splitters installed.
