Re: What's the best streaming platform

I'm building a website that uses a lot of Flash (e.g. for animating a "screen" into viewing position) but I have the QT Streaming Server only to stream movies from (the server is an XServe and the FLV streaming server only runs on 'doze and Linux).

What I'm doing - and it works fine so far - is playing the SWFs on one layer (i.e. using the HTML z-index) with the streamed .mov on one in front of it. As long as the SWF is not moving while the movie is playing everything is cool. I'm hiding the QT layer until the movie needs to be seen then revealing it.

And because QT works so well with JavaScript (stop/start/select move/ etc) there is good interaction between Flash:ActionScript:JavaScript:QuickTime.

Who needs to use FLVs..?

:)
