Re: Stupid Question about M2V files

Guys. Why does QT handle M2V file the way it does? ie: Why do they take so long to open and occasionally crash the finder.

QuickTime gets to grips with the file and creates a PAR file that makes opening it the next time near instant. I suppose that for you to be able to randomly jump around the movie that QuickTime needs to know where in the file the data is. I'm not sure that it ever crashes the Finder, but it can take so long on a big movie that you think something has crashed.

One thing that seems wrong is that the Finder preview has to go through that whole process, and then if you open the file QuickTime Player has to do it again, and after that if you use the file in DVD Studio Pro it takes a long time yet again. You would have thought that the different programs could use the same PAR file in order to open it quickly.
