Now, it could be that Microsoft are encouraging their employees to reach out more than Apple do: I am "pretty sure" that part of Waggoner's job description at Microsoft is to be PRO-ACTIVE and "get down and dirty on the factory floor" (you know ... "In Search Of Excellence"). But if Waggoner is lurking here - here could tell us - but he might be too busy putting out VC-1 bush fires for his employer. but I suspect the teams are quite different in size. But Apple's PRO-ACTIVE team size on this site - Apple/Quicktime's own site - is ZERO (and always has been). Apple is not - Jobs operating out of a garage - Jobs runs/owns a multi - billion dollar corporation (worth 50 billion?) with 8.7 billion dollars sitting in the bank right now (see below): "Apple's intentions for the cash managed in Reno are less clear, but its pool of funds is certainly on the rise. Apple's cash reserve has nearly doubled over the last two years. At the end of 2005, Apple had $8.7 billion in cash and short term investments, about 15% of its market capitalization. That's up 91%, from $4.6 billion, at the end of 2003. And it compares with much bigger rivals like Dell (DELL), which reported $9 billion in cash and short-term investments for the quarter ended February." About VC-1, I'm sure many of us have used it in the form of WMV9, and it is a pretty decent codec. In Streaming.com's 2006 objective research piece - it clearly states that VC-1 video sucks in comparison to Real video - and so does H.264 and Flash video suck in comparison to Real video. - Harry Pasternak Thousand Islands Institute Canada's Independent Centre For Housing Research & Education |
