In this case, the iSight uses a Firewire port, not a USB port. You'd think he would at least get that right before he deduces Apple's entire 5 year business strategy from the presence of a port.

Coming up with a USB iSight is the easiest of all the technical
innovations listed in that article. Apparently the iSights built into the iMac and the new laptops already use an internal USB interface.

Sure, but the point is that the logical chain starts with "What could a USB plug *possibly* be for?? It must be really important because Jobs glossed over it! Since its USB, it *must* be for an iSight camera." - like gee, could it be for a mouse? Could Jobs have glossed over it because its not that interesting?

But it COULD possibly be used for an iSight. Just because the current iSight is Firewire doesn't make his prediction incorrect just because he starts by referencing a USB isight.

Its wrong because its a false method. Its not merely because he flubbed the flimsy basis for the wild theory - but the whole approach is wrong. Its the same logical method as seeing the denial of UFO crashes at Roswell as evidence that it happened. A USB port by itself isn't evidence of anything. Like wow, a computer device with a USB port - it must have some cryptic explanation involving Myan ruins, the Movie DRM, and Area 51?! Oh wait - the built-in iSight is soldered to the USB interface? OK, now it makes sense. You really *can* deduce Apple's business strategy from the fact that a computer has a USB port.

"In this case, the iSight uses a Firewire port, not a USB port. You'd think he would at least get that right"...the point is, he wasn't necessarily wrong in saying that.

Well, by that standard, what could he *not* claim it's for? Not an exhaust port for butterflies, or anything else that's technically *impossible*, but if we accept arbitrary claims as the standard, then it could be just about anything. Say, the USB port is for a USB fingerprint reader, and the movie DRM is going to require fingerprint authentication. Or its for a label printer that will print out the RMA authorization return label automatically when it breaks. It *could* be, it *could* be . . . What's the evidence for that? - hey, its a USB port. Its not like every computer has one . . . er, wait . . .

Maybe he's trying to be funny? Maybe he had a deadline? I don't know. Many of his articles are pretty astute. But this one is just completely bogus.

Not to mention the silly contention that re-broadcasting movies might not be a copyright violation? Sheesh, in what universe is that possible?
