I was encoding a series of trailers from a 1280x720 59i raw Quicktime
file to 1280x724 59i with the H.264 codec.
I was using Compressor and had the following settings:
1280x720 59.94
6Mbits/sec
Automatic keyframes (as opposed to manual keyframes every 594 frames)
AAC Audio @ 48kHz | Best Quality
160kbits/CBR
When I played back the spot on a Mac Quad G5, the picture looked great.
When I played back the spot on a PC running QT 7.x Pro, it looked
horrible: the type in the introductory title was jaggy and aliased
and it flickered as well. So did the small type at the end of the spot.
Was the difference due to the graphics libraries in the OS on both
platforms, with the Mac being better?
I downloaded H264 HD trailers off of the Apple Trailers site for
comparison sake and any title treatment did exhibit the jaggy edges
but not nearly as pronounced as what I made.
I can put up screen shots if anyone is curious.
The material in question was all computer generated as opposed to
being film or video originated.
Has anyone else had such odd experiences?
Scott
