IMOVIE '08 is simply the worst "effort" Apple software engineers have ever published. The rest of the update to iLife is excellent with many more uses for Quicktime, but iMovie is simply horrible. The scarry thing is not that they got it wrong, but that they know it and put it out anyway. You can now get the same program I paid good money for and which is outstanding, iMovie 6, for free. This changes me from an early adopter of Apple software into a leery purchaser, worrying if Steve is still minding the store. He should fire each and everyone who is responsible for the terrible decisions that are rife in the new program. David Pogue does a fantastic job of stating this in specific technical terms here: http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/08/17/apple-takes-a-step-back-with-imovie-08/#comment-98766. The phone, the iPod, and other things are certainly important, but Apple needs leadership that can continue to recognize great from horrendous. I'm sure it's not all Steve's fault, but it is his responsibility. God bless, Steve Friederang CEO F-21 Marketing V.P., CEJ Dental, Inc. President, Living Legacy Interviews, Inc. President, The Tropical Penguin Leadership Team Head Coach, Corona Aquatic Team and, most important, 23 months ago, Michael was born! |
