Thanks for the advice that has been given previously, I am narrowing
down the possible options for my VR kit.
My application is mountain top 360 degree panoramas in the snow.
It seems that a fully mechanical film camera would be the best choice
for this sort of use, since it will often be used in cold climates
and I've been told that electronic shutter mechanisms can have
problems in the cold due to battery failure at low temperatures. I
guess that digital cameras would also have these battery related
power problems at low temperatures.
Film would provide better picture quality, and since my own home
viewing pleasure is the priority over web publishing, this would be
the best choice. Since it is for my own use, the speed/ease of
publishing from camera to web is not that important.
Film would also possibly (?) be better at handling large areas of
white, such as the snow landscapes I plan to shoot. This has been
mentioned as a possible problem, but I don't know what sort of
problems this will cause in reality.
I have asked at the local camera store for some recommendations, they
think I should choose a camera from this list of older second hand
cameras...
Olympus OM-1(n)
Pentax K1000
Pentax MX
Nikon FM
Nikon FM-2
Nikon FM-3A (new camera)
Does anyone have any opinions on these cameras, reasons to buy or not
to buy particular models, other models not mentioned here that I
should consider, etc.?
Also, what lens sizes should I buy, for use in 360 degree mountain
top panoramas, with 35mmm SLR camera in landscape position?
And, if I was to buy extra lens for making panos in other
environments, such as in valleys, or clearings amongst trees, what
other lens sizes should I buy?
Thanks,
Simon
