Hi Simon.
I shot a lot of ski racing with an F4, this is my 1st choice. on all manual. And bump skiers with EOS1.
The best cold weather ski photographers I know use an F3hp and F3p.
Get an Older F3hp or F3p or F4. you'll love it , manual everthing. the F4 is not.
You would not catch me using that k1000 or those cameras your guy recommended. FM's are ok but nothing to write home about.
I have a couple of FA nikons with MD15s that are very nice as well. these are great little older cameras that have tv as well as matrax metering.
Matrax metering is great for snow shots.
But the FA is not built as tough as a F4 or F3.
Those FM and FM2 cameras are not as tough either f4 or F3.
I use an EOS1 and F4 ,F3,FA and I would say for very cold weather you should get a F3hp or any F3.
An EOS will freeze before a F3 will ,infact the EOS1 will freeze so bad it will stop firing were as an F3 or F4 will not.
