There is a link to a technical article comparing several popular fisheye
lenses by Coastal Optical that was published a few years ago at my fisheye
page at
http://360vr.com/fisheye41/fisheye.html
Note that there is an aesthetic difference, the Sigma fisheyes creates
prominent star burst highlights compared to the Nikkor which suppresses
them.
With a digital workflow, careful use of unsharp masking will help restore
the look of sharpness in images. My favorite amount is 44/.4/0, can be
applied more than once. For increasing visual contrast without creating
gaps in the histogram, I might use USM 11/250/0 as a final step.
Diffraction will hurt fisheye images at f16 and smaller. Sigma would
perform best at f8-f11.

Jook
