When the first sony walkman came out, were talking very early 80's, i think, they were a few hundred bucks, not like the cheap stuff today, well i drop it in the lake off my dads Donzi, it went down 12 feet, i jumped in after it ofcourse.
after a couple days of it drying out, it worked flawlessly, and for many years to follow.
most optics though don't like water , this i do know. I crashed my fair share of lenses, even cannon "L".
