I am not sure about the size. On my system it's 640 KB (558818 Bytes).
Anyway, it should not be empty but the package should contain a folder
"Contents" and within that folder some more files and folders.
If you use the "Terminal" application, type the following commands:
cd /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/
ls -Rl QuickTime\ Plugin.plugin/
on my system that gives me the following output:

Try to move the QuickTime Plugin.plugin "folder" out of the Internet
Plug-Ins folder to a save place and reinstall QuickTime.
