I ordered a Transcend 512mb 30x CompactFlash and tested its read/write
speed vs.my SanDisk 'regular' speed 192mb CF card with the CP990
Both cards were empty of images when I took the test picture.
Write TIF:
Transcend 30x: 30 seconds
SanDisk 'normal': 70 seconds
Read TIF ("Play" mode, CP990)
Transcend 30x: 35 seconds
SanDisk 'normal': 20 seconds
As you can see the SanDisk was actually faster reading the image than the
Transcend. Perhaps this is due to the much greater capacity of the
Transcend card...or maybe not.
I did not (yet) try downloading images to the computer to compare speeds.
In any case I am impressed with the greatly increased write speed for TIF
images. Itis still about twice as long as I would like it to be, but it does make
shooting TIFimages for panos, a lot more practical than before, along with the greater
capacity(~54 images at TIF resolution)
Thanks to all for your replies to my previous post on this topic.
