Java is normally not faster then the QT player for a give platform because it run through Java VM. NOW, if you are using a Sun Spark system that is running Java Machine... then it may be faster! But for web development... and creating a java applet? Sorry, if you try to build an applet with the same functionality in a complex movie... I'm sorry the Java applet will choke\slow down. If they did not... we would be using. Java applets do very poorly when you try running wire sprites.
