When you press the button to take a picture, there is a delay and then the
picture is taken. I have heard it is a modifiable setting.
If so how do you modify this.

Hi, Robert!

One way you can affect the delay is by changing the focus parameters
(perhaps there are others). The reason for the delay is the "auto-focus"
routine. By eliminating this operation you will drop the lag time
dramatically

Set the focus to "Infinity" via the leftmost button below the LCD sreen
(for details see p.28 of manual).

Use the "Focus Lock" feature which is employed when holding down the
shutter button halfway (for details see p.29 of manual).

Set the focus distance manually by holding down the same button as above,
and rotating the command dial (for details see p.42 of manual).

 Use "Continuous" Auto-Focus mode (Menu "2" > "Focus" > "Auto-Focus Mode"),
which eats up your batteries but results in a substantially reduced shutter
lag time while still allowing the camera to exercise auto-focus control in a
dynamic fashion (for details see p.55 of manual).
