Re: Movies in safari - Loading problem

Ryan, perhaps all you need is to export the movie to Fast Start QuickTime VR. There are tools you can use from Jon Summers, like DelivRator, to understand your movie. For quick insight, compare a freshly made pano with your problem pano in QT pro. (Beware holes in the following, I haven't done this much lately and it is a hack.)

Get movie properties. On the left is a list of tracks. A fresh simple pano has two tracks: a QuickTime VR track and a video track. That does not even have a fast start track. I learned that every time I added annotations or exported for streaming preview or did any special thing, that I got more tracks. The movie got bigger and the loading took longer.

If your movie has gotten loaded down with unused tracks, you have two choices.

1. The best is to contact the content preparer and ask for the raw movie. That is, just the stitched and warped one. If it came from QTVRAS it would have a default extension of .pano. That is, nothing has been done in QT pro or another authoring program to enhance it. If you can get that, simply open in QT pro, add annotations needed, like copyright.

Then export it as "Movie to Fast Start QuickTime VR". You will see options for the Fast Start. The cruder the preview, the faster the load. Make it grayscale at 25%, least quality. With a large movie, the preview track can be too large. Look into making your own simple preview track and adding it to the movie, instead of having QT Pro do it.

2. If you can't get a raw movie, you can remove the tracks yourself. This might be dangerous if there are sprites and sound and other special tracks in there. You could experiment on copies of the movie to try and get out extra Fast Start tracks and hinted tracks. You'll need some instructions on how to change the controller to movie and use the menu items to delete tracks. Or you could try exporting the VR track and the first video track, adding them together to get a clean, lean version of the movie.

In short, experiment with tracks to see what you have, what you want to keep, and what you want to change.

It seems with my particular movie the QT plug-in in safari is trying to load
the whole movie straight away (rather than progressively). This is basically
