G4 noise

I got a G4 Mac for the first time yesterday. The fans were noisy. I looked at the inside of the box and realized that the power supply was mostly attached only at the rear of the box, so the energy of the fans was dissapated to the air as sound.

I cut a piece of rubber from an old engine mount I had in the junk pile in my shop and wedged the rubber between the top of the power supply toward the front of the supply and the top of the case. Now the energy from the fans that is not absorbed by the rubber is distributed to the case and the sound is muted and the high pitched whine that was there is gone.

So there is a tip for everybody with a G4 to make it quieter. It really works!
