Re: More About FastStart Quicktime MOV

Ponyboy...
now there's a moniker I recall. Been a while since I was on the list.

John,

You actually add another track to the movie, a single frame video track with
that image in there, so obviously it's gonna increase file size. The
blurring trick should help get the file size down, because of the JPEG
compression.

If you need to keep the files their absolute minimum size, just use the fast
start tiles.

A cool trick with Fast Start Preview Tracks is to use a completely different
image as the preview, like a "Loading..." image, and then have the real pano
appear as it loads.

So I can add an image to the movie for the reference frame as a "wait" image and it will not be displayed during the VR track? OK...maybe I can managed that. And it has to be the same size as the movie frame..or can I add using the "Add Scaled". I know it should be small in memory footprint...just want to know if I need to specify which track I add it to, or if I paste it in and goes to a separate track than the VR?

Btw... I see your a certified tech. Did you just take the test or go through
a training course? Is it worth it? Does it get you more work? I've thought
about taking the test, but don't like the fact that's it's a one year
certification.

I completed the course of study from Apple's on-line resources and took the exam. The access to those areas of their website become available if your purchase the package for the course of study. I think it's $299. At the time, I was associated with a firm also providing Mac service who encouraged the technicians to become certified. I paid for the exam myself it's $150. I don't know about the one year time period. I mean, I went through the material and took the exam.
It might bring in more work if I "beat the bushes" more. It was a point of making a professional goal.

Subject: More About FastStart Quicktime MOV

I am looking at the options provided by the Fast Start for QTVR movie
in the Quicktime export feature. I tried two different exports with two
different compression schemes and values.
1. Sorenson Video3 at 50%
2. JPEG Photo at 50% (the default except at 50% instead of 25%
compression value)

Added "Blur" to both. (Herein another question as this is suppose to
reduce the visibility of compression artifacts)...
both the resulting exports were large in file size than the original
file. Does such an export rely on file size to make the Fast Start, or
does the Fast Start add bits to make the movie load faster even if the
files size is larger?

Also, If I add a preview image for the opening frame...should it an
unmapped or warped image? Either presumably at the same size of the
movie frame dimensions?
