Re: QTVR with movies/Animations

Interesting use of the baby movie.

I first put up a demo with a baby dancing in the pano in '97

Demo number 3 on this page:
 http://www.vrhotwires.com/VRSUPPORT.HTM

That used a special qt player called vrscript. You'll notice it has perfect warping
fast panning, and directional sound. It uses true backbuffer movies which only work
in cylindricals and in a few apps like vrscript and the gemma xtr for director.

I also did it in the standard qt format a few years later...

This uses a sprite and a lot of math (the algo has gotten better since this)

There are 3 ways that video is nicely integrated into QT.

As linear transitions like these:

as pano animations like this:

or taking over the whole window in a spriteorama
like this:

or we did a couple months on a cubic video engine too.
I lost interest when I couldn't trade it for a cubic video camera... the geometry isn't perfect.

btw: I'll be talking about integrating video into qt panos at the QTVR gathering next week.

You should have a look at what is being discussed on the PanoTools list.

Here are two exampels of VR movies.

    comments are welcome,

on my system local execution works perfektly smooth.
on webserver it took nearly 10 seconds until all
124 frames are loaded and the smooth animation starts.

I need some helpful tips

I hope some of you have played Myst 3. They have the game set up
similar to a QTVR with nodes but inside of the Game engine they
rendered animations and put in video and while you pan around the
cubic the animations and video are still playing and not moving from
their fixed positions. I want to do something similar to that as well.
Well I got a hold of the main Tech programmer who did that, Max Elliot
of Presto Studios which no longer exists. He said that he could not do
it with QT. So that is why he wrote his own software engine to do it.
My question is LSP says they can put animations and movies inside of a
QTVR, but I have not seen any examples I would like to see some and
see how it is done. Can anyone help me with that? I also called LSP or
Totally hip and the tech guy I talked to said you could put in video
but that it would move slightly when you pan around while the
movie/animation is still playing. He also told me that LSP could not
set the movie/animation firmly in place while you pan around like what
Myst 3 did. Does anyone have any experience or help with that issue?
Any examples or Tutorials? Anything would be helpful.
Also I have been looking at VRHotwires....Does anyone know if
VRhotwires is capable of that? I would love to see some examples and
tutorials for that too, if it can be done.
well anything would be helpful...
thanks
andy
