Could you please elaborate on what you were achieving by tweaking the memory handling and what you were looking for or achieving when tweaking the crop circle of the fisheye tests ?
I find that Stitcher Unlimited easily solves problematic stitches, but it is slow and buggy.

... Having done tests with smartblend, using both fisheye (8mm & 15mm) and a standard 17mm lens, I see no visual difference between both applications in terms of final result. (mac version needs a few tweeks in terms of memory handling etc.,) I will say after a few tweeks of the crop circle  on the fisheye tests, Stitcher produced the better image and it was more geometrically correct - less distortion.
