Re: recording QTVR to DVD

I use a wonderful 3D package called Infini-D
originally by Specular, then Metacreations, now in
it's final incarnation as Carrara by Eovia. Anyway, if
you can bittorrent Infini-D it's pretty much free and
legal as it's not supported by anyone anymore and
Eovia denies it's existence ;)

I'm more concerned about your authoring to DVD. Are
you seriously going to consider up/down panning as
well as left/right? That's pretty hard to do, not to
mention hard on the viewer. Most DVD VR tours i've
seen (the Harry Potter DVDs are amazing) are simple
Cylindrical panos with left/right only. this is
because the number of movies you create grow
exponentially with additional vertical elements.

The typical DVD VR is 8 movies at most. You can't
click and hold with a dvd button and expect a movie
just to play as long as you hold down the button (like
it does with the mouse and QT). You must make a
decision on degree increments and do a click then run
a movie style button interface.

Anything more then 8 movies and people get bored with
the constant start/stop between turnings. Here's how a
regular 4 node DVD VR pans out (pun intended ;)

(degrees)
movie 1: 0 to 90
movie 2: 90 to 180
movie 3: 180 to 270
movie 4: 270 to 360

(then, you'll need the same movies rendered again, but
in reverse as you can't use the same forward movie and
simply play it backwards on a dvd)

movie 5: 360 to 270
movie 6: 270 to 180
movie 7: 180 to 90
movie 8: 90 to 0

So, just think a minute how many movies you'd need
with just ONE more track to handle one click looking
up 5 degrees or so. You'd need another set of 8 for
turning left and right while you are one click up,
plus 4 more movies from each position below to get
people up there and 4 more movies to get people down
from there. That's 16 more movies for just one click
up!

Let me know if you need any more help on this. I
author on Apple's DVD studio pro.
