I have the same set up as you do and use the King Pano Head (and PTgui as the stitching application). Since I got it about 4- 5 months ago, the King Pano head has given me flawless results. Here's the URL: I highly recommend this pano head, not only because it is an affordable yet excellent piece of equipment, but because the developer stands by his work 100%. I recently had an accident that damaged the head and the developer was extremely accommodating in replacing it. In fact, he now has a new model that is seven sturdier! As for carrying it around - I found that if left on the tripod, the L shape formed by the two arms fits neatly into my shoulder. The King Pano head itself is pretty light but firm. The only thing I would wish for on this pano head would be degree markings for the down angle, but that's pretty easy to estimate once you start taking a few panos. And with the 10-22mm (I'm assuming it is the Canon lens your using) there is so much overlap you don't really need to worry. FYI - I got excellent results with the King Pano head and the 10-22mm on a Canon Rebel shooting just two rows of 6 shots around - up 45 degrees and down 45 degrees. I didn't even bother to shoot zenith or nadir shots (mostly because I kept forgetting :) but had just enough coverage for a full equarectnagular image. Another great thing about the King Pano head is that the developer posts nodal point numbers for many camera and lens combinations on his web site. While the Canon 10-22mm is listed in a lot of combinations, there is no number posted for it yet with the Rebel. However, I just rented that lens last month and shot a lot of great panos with it. I found that a setting of 63mm (front end of pano head) worked very well for me. You can view samples I took with the King Pano and a Canon 300D - 18-55mm lens here: I also have samples using the 10-22mm but have not posted them yet. Let me know if your interested in looking at those. Although I do not own the Sigma 8mm - I also had an opportunity to try that lens with my Rebel and the King Pano Head - shooting just 4 shots around, I got a very acceptable stitch. |
