I would also add that if you want something ultimately lightweight and
transportable yet accurate, nothing is making me happier these days than
the bracket Bo Lorentzen made me for a Sigma 8mm - it's a much simpler
design than an adjustable pano head, though it is of course lens-specific.
But it weighs just ounces, slips into a pocket, and can be used from a
monopod or tripod just as easily.

For my money and effort there's nothing I use more than this now; I have a
number of pano heads, from a Nodal Ninja to several Kaidans and a 360
Precision, and 90% or more of my work (including situations where extra
weight is no problem) is with my bracket as it's just so nice and easy.
