RE: jpg compression

Little off topic, ..Very good point with zenith and Enblend, ..normally I fixed nadir manually..my question...Using PTGui, what do you prefer for outdoor panoramas blend: Smartblend  or PTGui??

Thanks

Hi, i'm trying to work out why my panorama's have colour posterization (banding; gradation) particularly evident in skies, when i render them out. I'm using the following setup:

- Canon 5D
- Canon 15mm Fisheye

I'm on a MacBook Pro / OS X 10.4.11 / 2GB RAM / 2.33GHz. I'm using Realviz Stitcher Unlimited 5.5.4 (patch from Stitcher Unlimited 5.5)
I shoot 6 shots around + zenith + nadir. I usually shoot on SML JPG, as I'm shooting many locations and need to keep file sizes down. I have tried shooting RAW files and converting these to both 8-bit & 16-bit TIFFs. But rendering these out either produces panos with jpg compression evident in the sky or won't render them out . Could it be something to do with my quick time settings?
The render settings I've been using are:

Spherical - JPG - 100%
Blending - Smart
Sharpening - Maximum
Interpolation - Lanczos5

OK here is a test.

MacBook Pro / OS X 10.4.10 / 2GB RAM / 2.33GH

Stitcher unlimited 5.6

Canon 5D 4 Raw from Tokina 10-17 at 12mm  converted to 16 bit at full resolution.

Rendered as 5000x2500

Smart Bicubic no compression Stripped Miulti-Tif  16bit

Movie made with CubicConverter  at 50% jpg compresion

As I said I never used Stitcher but I had a test version I downloaded some time ago.

Stitching was much easier than I expected. It had no problem calibrating the Tokina Lens

Actually it took me less than 15 minutes to do it all.

Only problem is that it does not blend at the zenith which is the same also with Enblend.

Only PTGui's own blender can do that.
