in which case QTPlayer is probably getting a HW accelerated drawing context and you aren't.

what kind of video, with what other stuff drawing? are you trying to composite a movie and some other graphics?

in the case, for example, of Sorenson video, you'll get way better performance drawing to the screen vs to an offscreen RGB GWorld since you'll score a colour space conversion - drawing to the screen will get you a YUV overlay... other codecs will perform the same way too.
