a few things about this line:

SG.setGWorld(new QDGraphics(VidChan.getVideoRect()), null);

you _must_ set the SG gworld _before_ making the video channel on OSX and Windows - to the valid scratch gworld is good enough - but better if your actual GWorld...

this is not something that was ever an issue on Mac OS < X but blows up immediately on OS X when you create the video channel...
