QTCanvas is a heavy object - you will not be able to render on top of it the
way you're trying. if all you need is to display an image - why not just use
straight Java image rendering with a JLayeredPane ?

there is a dev release for a JQTCanvas which allows you to use it as a swing
component, though the performance of it makes it unsuitable for most usages.
