as i mentioned... i don't use getURL().
i use DebugStr. this requires wiring the button with quicktime -- if you
aren't familiar with QuickTime programming, you might just stick with the
url method and parse out the protocol as you're doing. it's kind of messy
looking though.

wiring your flash requires using LivestagePro basically.
it's just the easiest way. that's what i do. i also use other types of
quicktime media besides just a flash interface -- so it is quite a bit more
complex in my situation.

at least it wouldn't look as random as http://. can you just catch that
UtilException and ignore it?
