I suggest an intermediate step - try either (1) putting four movies onto one canvas in QTJ or (2) adding all four video tracks to one movie arranged 2x2 (you can do this with pro player, SMIL etc) and then playing that one movie back in QTJ. One possibility for the performance issue is you are getting only 1 accelerated playback gworld and 3 unaccelerated ones.
