Playing video while capturing

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of playing a video file whilst it is being
captured. It seems like QuickTime will only play the portion of the file
which was available when the movie file was initially loaded. Is there any
way to get QuickTime to reset its view of the length of a movie file while
it is being played.
