RE: cutting mp3!

I'm probably guilty of spreading that.  I was thinking from the Windows perspective, but I didn't even know there was mp3 encoding on Macs.  Always learning.

Thanks Chris for the correction! I read this in a thread on QTJ Mailing List about MP3 encoding and did not spend enough time to investigate by myself.

I will do that straight away.

Thanks again!

Who says it's not possible to encode MP3's using QTJ?

If you're on a Mac, you can get the LAME.framework and LAMEEncoder MP3 component for QuickTime, and then export audio to MP3 as a regular everyday movie export.  Understand of course that this approach isn't the same as directly working in MP3: you import MP3 to a QuickTime movie, edit, then export from the movie to an MP3 file.   I think this also implies a re-encode on the export.  But it would allow you to take anything QuickTime can read, not just MP3, as an input.

I want to cut the mp3’s for the first 20 seconds using Java. I know that it’s not possible to encode into mp3’s using QTJ. However I read in mailing lists that we can do the same thing using JavaSound API i.e. reading mp3, cutting first 20 seconds and encode into new mp3 again. I had to do it on a bit urgent basis.
