Re: QTJava and MPEG2 component

Hi

Thanks for the replies.

It seems that actually our software can replay MPEG2 after all, but the performance is so poor that it is very jerky. This is combined with some encoding/decoding issues which mean the de-interlacing is messed up. The final result is that it looks like its garbling the movie when in fact its just playing it back as best it can :-)

Duke Movie performs better, but still not perfect and still has the interlacing problem (As does QTplayer itself)

The main problem with our program is that it is using the Swing display option rather than AWT (as used by Duke Movie), which seems to give a large performance hit.

Movie.preroll does not seem to help too much either. Is there another way of caching a movie before playing to stop jerking in Swing playback?

And are there any de-interlacing options to help decode MPEG2 correctly? Or should this be altered in the original capture device?

Thanks for any help 8-)

No additional steps are required to gain MPEG2 playback support in
QuickTime for Java, on either platform.

Are you getting an error and/or exception from QTJ?
Have you perhaps tried with a sample project, say DukeMovie, from the
developer web-site?
