We have just uncovered a problem with all our new iMac G5's. Apple
does
not preset the DVD Region Code to 1 - North America. So currently we
have our computers that need to have this set. Which means taking
a DVD
around to each machine on campus and inserting it until the dialog box
comes up to change it. There is a UNIX command for it but I do not
know
what switches it needs to set the code the proper one. I want to do
this via ARD 2.2 to all our machines at one time, but do not know the
command.
Does anyone have any ideas? The location of the command is
/usr/bin/setregion but I have not found any other information so far.
The man page sort of implies that you're not supposed to use it from
the command line.
That said, you can probably figure out how to use it by doing the
following:
1. Rename /usr/bin/setregion to /usr/bin/setregion.apple
2. Write a perl script called /usr/bin/setregion that
a. Prints out (logs to a file) the current ENV
b. Prints out (logs to a file) all the command line arguments
c. Calls /usr/bin/setregion.apple with the command line
arguments passed
3. Insert your DVD into a Mac which doesn't have a code set
Then examine the log from the perl script. It *might* be as simple
as that.
That said, I've tried this while attempting to figure out how to send
an ARD help request from the command line. I was unsuccessful using
this method.
It is possible that the setregion command needs DVD Player to
interact with it in some way, instead of simply DVD Player simply
calling setregion with the right arguments.
