I know in ARD you can run a remote install of .pkg files but how can I run .dmg files remotely? I've looked through the forums and have not found much on it.

As far as I know, you cannot "run" dmg files. There is a UNIX command line you can use to *mount* disk image files: hdiutil, e.g.:

    hdiutil attach iTunesX.dmg

Which will mount the dmg as /Volumes/iTunesX/

If you have the dmg locally, it is easier to mount it locally, then use ARD to install the pkg contained in the dmg.
