As expected, a lot of similar replies to this came. One thing that must be known is if they are even capable of port forwarding, which most of the time is not the case. If their ISP allows tampering of the router they provided you must first find out the make and model number of their internet router and then determine how to access and setup port forwarding. Ignore the words Torrent in there, this is still a great documentation - it just so happens that torrents are driving a great deal of the home port forwarding community.

I am using ARD 3.1 --- both Admin and clients on OS X 10.4.8 --- all
systems.  I tested things out on our local network -- and all is great. I
can connect to clients, copy files, etc.

HOWEVER, I was then asked to give support to a client -- out of house.

I had the client install ARD 3.1 client / create a user account for ARD and
enabled ALL privileges -- actually for both the ARD User (with admin
privileges and the Main Admin user account

In the ARD 3.1 Admin I chose scanner / chose Network Address / and then
typed in the IP address.

I realized that the IP the client provided was actually a localhost IP --
specifically 192.168.0.6 ----- tried to connect , but failed (obviously)

Then I asked the client to go to whatismyip.com -- they told me it was
71.113.97.178

I entered that in --- and was returned with a user name of---

"pool-73-113-97-178-sttlwa.dsl-w.verizon.net"

Tried to connect again -- but no go.

I had he client go to System Prefs and highlight the Apple Remote Desktop
Share -- and it said that other users can connect remotely at address:
192.168.0.6

I don't claim to be an IT kind of gal -- but I do make great coffee.

Could someone be so kind as o help me out????

Thanks, I desperately need to access the client's Mac!!!!
