Other folks on the list have done a good job of explaining the technical
problems you're encountering. One possible solution (depending on your
ability to spend money) is Fog Creek Software's Copilot service
<https://www.copilot.com/> which lets you connect to the pilot despite the
router. A day pass is only $5.
(I have never used this service-- evaluating it is on my to-do list-- but it
may well solve your immediate problem.)
