We currently use AppleTalk to connect to Windows network servers. Once this is all done, I’d like to just copy whatever files are necessary to other computers. Anybody know how to accomplish this?


You can configure printers remotely from the command line using “lpadmin”. I don’t find the man page to be entirely helpful, so here are some details. The command form is as follows:

lpadmin -p name -L location -E -v protocol://ip -P "/path/to/description.gz"

-p = What you want the printer to be called in the print dialog
-L = the printer’s location (optional, just a label)
-E = enables the printer (like putting a check next to a printer in the GUI
-v = the device name, including protocol and IP address (e.g. lpd://10.1.1.200)
-P = path to the local printer description file
