Using Apple Remote Desktop 3.1 (admin), when we observe one or more intel-iMacs in any of our labs on a 1Gbit network everything starts working as expected: controlling, sending files, commands ...., everything seems OK.But when we try to observe another client iMac and another again (one or more at a time) more and more iMacs become out of reach (trying endless to connect). It is nevertheless possible to send UNIX commands, restart or shut down these iMacs. We found: 1) that all of these unobservable iMacs have a CPU busy time greater than 49% , sometimes up to 100% 2) this CPU time is near to entirely used by AppleVNCServer 3) the phenomenon does not depend on elapsed time, but on the number of times we try to observe 4) the best way to recover the ability to observe or control is to send to the client the UNIX Command <sudo killall AppleVNCServer> as root. 5) The problem was present with ARD 3.0 and did not change after upgrading (admin and clients) to ARD 3.1 6) With another lab on a 100Mbit network with iMacs configured from exactly the same disk image, the problem does not appear! Our complaint is that we can't expect from our users (teachers using ARD in a lab as classroom) that they sent a UNIX command each time they loose the control of some clients. Do you have any idea how to solve that problem. Thanks for your feedback For reference we saw in this list suggestions like sending again "Upgrade Client" to ARD 3.1, or sending </usr/bin/killall ARDAgent> or kickstart ARD but none seemed really a solution for our users. Again, many thanks for your reading |
