Loss of Connectivity

I had been able to access over 400 Macs from ARD 3.0 but now all of the computer appear to be unavailable on the network.  I know this is not the case.  All the names are greyed out, the DNS name is "unknown" and the ARD version is blank.  If I scan using local network not a single computer is found.  If I scan using file import ARD sees Mac and non-Mac assets but the Macs, including Macs that have been previously added to computers lists, appear to be unavailable, name greyed out, DNS name "unknown" and ARD Version blank.  In an attempt to resolve the issue I upgraded to 3.1 on the admin side.  The clients are a mix of 3.0 and 3.1.  Any suggestions?
