Re: Office 2004 updates via ARD

I'm just going to throw out my nickel of advice, the MacEnterprise Script (http://macenterprise.org/content/view/229/84/) has yet to fail me.  Since my department is too poor to buy all those fancy packaging softwares i gotta use what Apple and The Community provides :)  i can usually run it, package it, build it, do a test run on a blank disk image in < 15 minutes.  It's been bulletproof so far, but i still do the blank run as a sanity check to make sure its locating files in the proper places before i shove it out to my initial set of machines (typically the people for whom Office isn't mission critical, so if it bombs out i'm not stopping them from anything vital.  Once i don't hear screaming for a few days i'll shove it down to the rest.) and r/w DMGs are perfect for this.

I pushed out 11.3.3 in < 20 minutes from the time i started the script until it was completed on the first set of machines.  It actually took longer to transfer than it did to build, but some of the machines i was pushing to are on a T1.  Regardless, the script's really simple to use, probably going to regret this but if anybody has trouble i'd be willing to take a shot at helping them get started.  I really need to work on getting it documented well anyway so my predecessor will have some clue :\

Hi all,

I was curious on how you guys handle pushing out Office 2004 updates (aka 11.3.3) to all of your machines via ARD?

I install it on my laptop, (also the ARD administrator system), read the readme to find out which files were updated, then just push those files out to the various clients. When I get a chance, I’m going to set this up as a folder action, so all I have to do is copy the file to a folder in my Dock and AppleScript does the rest. Dead simple really.
