Not all apps play nicely with symlinks-- Classic apps for sure, but I believe also some native apps will choke on symlinks. John's AppleScript suggestion is probably the best solution here. -- Dave Pooser, ACSA Manager of Information Services Alford Media http://www.alfordmedia.com I tried this osascript -e 'tell application "Finder" to make alias file to alias :Applications:AlaskaAssessments:CAL at desktop' and got nowhere really. Came on strong and gave up easy. I had no use for the alias on the desktop anyway. What I did in the end was replicate the Folder I was trying to copy the alias to on the ARD admin machine with the alias added. "copy items" moved the folder where I wanted it and all alias functionality was present after the move. The whole folder is for local managed users and has nothing but alias' in it. Thank you for the replies and suggestions. Keeping in mind the loggers adage "never holler HO on a hard pull" I will revisit the osascript above as time allows.
