I recently got an LG VX4500 (Verizon) and have been pretty happy with it.
Verizon doesn't officially support MacOS X, but there's a MacOS X driver 
available for the serial-USB cable that comes in Verizon's Mobile Office 
Kit ($40) from the "lgvx4500" yahoo group archives.  With this, I can use 
the phone as a modem for my 12" Powerbook.
