I've essentially ordered one of these things (without all the bio
stuff) and Apple has reps who will gladly configure it the way you want
plus answer most if not all of your questions. Its coming with the
Asante 16-port switch but I'm ordering Myrinet before the end of April.
The only down side is that the machine (nodes really) isn't shipping
until April 28th.
Has anyone learned more about this Apple workgroup cluster for
bioinformatics? I'm wondering if they will unbundle the software or
bundle a different set of software for other specialties than
bioinformatics. Also, I'm wondering if the system implements a
multiprocessor manager that allocates jobs across the cluster or if
the nodes remain independent. I have a request in for more
information, but was just wondering if anyone here had already started
looking at these systems, or perhaps even obtained one, and can
comment/advise?
