I have a SUN sparc station that I currently use to run phred, phrap, and consed, programs used for analysis and assembly of DNA sequence. These programs are unix based. My USDA unit also uses this computer for our email and web site. I have been given the ok to upgrade so I would like to move to the Xserve or a dual G5. Has anyone moved these DNA programs to OSX, if so how did you do it. I know basic unix, but I am not a pro.

Off the top of my head, I do remember using phred and phrap as part of the Staden package which at the time worked well under Jaguar (OS 10.2). I haven't yet tried Staden under Panther (OS 10.3) though binaries for OS X are now available at
