However, if like me you suffer from paranoia, just get a copy of Little Snitch from the good guys at
http://www.obdev.at. It puts up a dialogue whenever software on your computer tries to access a DNS address or IP number that you have not specifically typed in.

Actually, no, it was not due to spyware on OS X. There are currently no
spyware removal programs for OS X, as there is no known malicious
spyware for OS X.[1]

Most likely, the email address of the list and other list properties
were harvested elsewhere.
