Also, version 3.5 of gcc supposedly does automatic vectorization, at least
in some cases. This will be part of the next release of Xcode, but is
available now from open source sites.


Just to avoid confusion. The FSF folks just renamed gcc-3.5 as gcc-4.0 so you will see both.

If you want Apple code for this compiler, get it from ordinary gcc CVS using the tag apple-ppc-branch on your check out. (see http://gcc.gnu.org/cvs.html) Even better check on the web cvs first and use the latest tag along the apple-ppc-branch because you are much less likely to get broken code. As of now that seems to be apple-gcc-4002.

This compiler will only build with the Xcode 1.5 because it needs new versions of cctools.
