Re: [apple scitech] Leopard breaks MATLAB 6.5

Duncan,

I don't think it's a java problem since you are running with the - nojvm flag, which turns off all Java. Also, java is generally quite backward compatible. Quite honestly, I'm rather surprised that you got MATLAB 6.5 to run on Panther; there were so many underlying library changes in Panther. Also if I remember well enough, MATLAB 6.5 was released sometime around 2000, seven years ago!

It could be a number of issues. I understand that X11 got a big update in Leopard, so that could be one source. Dynamic library calls could be another source. I wouldn't want to tackle such issues. I realize that MATLAB licenses are expensive, but it may be worth pursuing an academic upgrade license for that laptop.

matlab -nojvm provides a functional MATLAB that even allows
plotting (which appears in X11).

Trying to launch the "usual way" gets no further than the
MATLAB 6 splash window.

Version is 6.5.0.185000 (R13)

I'm guessing it's a java related problem and I don't have any
ideas on how to fix this.

This is getting to be a habit with MATLAB - there was a problem
with QT some time ago I remember.

I have MATLAB 7 (7.0.4.352 (R14) Service Pack 2) and that seems
to be fine. Only problem is I only have a license for 6.5 on
my laptop.

Cheers,
Duncan.
