As David Gohara can tell you, this is something we've been
discussing with MacResearch for several years. The challenge has
been waiting for a stable version of gFortran for gcc 4, since g77
wasn't drop-in compatible with gcc 3.
What we need most from Mac Research is a *testable* Fortran, with
some sort of coherent regression suite, since we have basically
zero Fortran code inside Apple. Once we have something reproducible
and compatible like that, I will do my best to get it included in a
future version of the Xcode.
If you're interested in helping make that happen, I encourage you
to contact David and MacResearch.
Sincerely,
