I think you might want to read up on previous threads on custom cells.
If you search the archives for messages with the subject "cell" you
should find some interesting stuff, including a mail from Riley Howard
(another Apple engineer) who posted an example in his public .Mac
folder (username == rileyhoward).
You can define a custom cell to make any particular table column's
cells look just about however you want them too (including adding
images, attributed text, etc.).
